Drawing From A Live Model- Short Pose

Short-Pose Workshop

In this workshop we'll learn on setting a foundation to drawing: Gesture. Essentially the soul of drawing, we will spend class sketching from the live model in various timed poses. Rhythm, movement, and flow are all concepts to be covered. Poses will range from 2 minutes, 5's 10's.

Focus will be heavy on the total action/mood of a figure rather than fully rendered pieces.

Instructor will provide personal 1-on-1 guidance throughout

1-1:30 PM

-5 minute exercise where model takes five 1-minute poses to draw from

-Lecture: Intro, instructor demo, sketchbook tour, art book tour

-Repeat of 5 minute exercise

1:30-2 PM: Ten 2-minutes poses

2-2:30 PM: Five 5-minute poses

2:30-3 PM: One 5-minute + Two 10-minute poses

3-3:30PM: Two 15-minute poses

3:30-4pm: 20-minute pose

Please note: Participants in this workshop will be drawing from a live nude model. Materials included. Ages 18+.

Glass Fusing Workshop

Ceramic Garden Art Workshop

During this workshop, students will have the opportunity to create your choice of either a garden home or a garden pole.

Both creations are made with the same processes at the beginning, but students can choose their own direction according to their preference. Students will be using red clay to construct the projects, each piece will be made unique with stamps, appliques and other surace decorations and finished with colored slips!

Gouache and Watercolor Pencil Portraits Workshop

In this workshop we will focus on creating unique self-portraits with gouache. Learn how to use the spontaneity of loose washes and gestural mark-making to your advantage in creating expressive portraits! We’ll focus on building up form with color and value, while refining shape with watercolor pencil. Gouache is an opaque, water-based paint with working qualities similar to both watercolor and acrylic, that results in a matte, flat, and quick-drying finish. It allows for layering from dark to light, high color saturation, and is easy to work with.

Ages 18+. All Materials included.

Drawing From A Live Model- Long Pose

Long-Pose Figure Drawing Workshop

In this workshop we will focus on a single long-pose figure drawing. Gesture and form will be a main focus. Other principles covered will be Relationships, Proportion, Shadow Mapping, and Light/Shade. We will draw in half-hour bouts during these three hours.

1-1:30 PM: Intro, lecture, demo, sketchbook + art book tour

1:30-4 PM: 25-min bouts + 1-on-1 instruction

Supply List

· Pencils: Wooden, mechanical (0.5-0.7) of various grades (HB, B, 2B)

· Charcoal Pencils: General’s, Conté á Paris, Faber-Castel + Sandpaper blocks/crafting knife to sharpen them.

· Ballpoint pens: Bic, Paper-Mate

Papers

· Any Newsprint or Strathmore/Canson Drawing Paper at 12x18, 14x17, or 18x24 inches. Charcoal users: You want some tooth to your papers.

· Copy/print paper: A few dozen sheets for a more softer drawing feel.

Other

· Masonite Board and clamps to hold down your paper/Tabletop easel, standard easels

Instructor: Mark Nuñez

Mark is an artist and instructor in Northwest Arkansas. He is founder of NWA Life Drawing, a monthly drawing group. He currently has an original drawing in the ‘Small Works On Paper 2026’ traveling exhibit. He exhibited last year at Fenix Arts for ‘Exploring the Inevitable: The Art of Dying’ , ‘This Is Our Land’, and at Local Color Gallery’s ‘Small Works Show’ . He previously worked as a 3D Artist for various studios (mobile, AR/VR) for several years in Los Angeles. You’ll probably stumble upon him learning from artworks at Crystal Bridges or out and about in life just sketching.
