Figurative Ceramics
with Chrystal O'Boyle
Learn to sculpt expressive, figurative forms in clay with ceramic artist and Community Creative Center’s Artist-in-Residence, Chrystal O’Boyle. Explore anatomy, proportion, and surface techniques to bring your ceramic figures to life.
This six-week class introduces figure sculpture through hands-on ceramic projects that explore the human form. We’ll begin with a small hanging portrait to learn facial construction and build comfort with the material. From there, students will create a small, full-bodied figure using coil-building techniques, with demos on proportion, gesture, and detail. The class ends with surface treatments—either glazing or cold finishing—to bring each piece to life.
6-Week Schedule
Week 1 – Pinch Pot Hanging Heads
Intro to facial sculpting. Students make a small hanging head to get comfortable with clay and show their working style.
Week 2 – Begin Big Project: Coil-Built Figure (Body + Legs)
Demo on coil-building torsos and legs. Students begin their full-body sculptures.
Week 3 – Continue Big Project: Arms, Head + Details
Demos on arms, head construction, and refining facial features and gestures.
Week 4 – Workday + Final Builds
Work session with optional demos. Goal: finish construction and begin controlled drying.
Week 5 – Drying & Optional Bonus Project
Place figures on the bisque shelf for a slow, monitored fire. Optional project: body-part cup (ear cup, nose vase, etc.) or a glaze/cold-surface demo.
Week 6 – Surface Treatments
Students choose between glazing or cold finishing (e.g. watercolor + wax) and finalize their work.
Impressionists Pastels
with Rosemary Bailey
Students will learn basic rules of artistic landscape design in the impressionist style to unlock the power of the their own independent artistic expression, translating from landscape images. They will learn composition, blocking in shapes, color, and value to create visual interest. In addition, they will learn the beginnings of how to develop their own artistic process and intuition. In addition, they will have the opportunity to learn problem solving and expand their capacity to work on multiple pieces at once. This is a beginner friendly course.

Intermediate Watercolor: Stories in the sky

Skills: Negative painting for cloud forms, glazing for depth, and bold, gestural strokes.

Weeks 5-6
Focus: Cool palettes, muted tones, and the quiet atmosphere of winter landscapes.
Skills: Layering pale washes, creating soft edges for clouds, balancing grays and blues for depth.
Project: A serene winter landscape under an expansive sky, capturing the stillness of the season.
Porcelain Wheel
with John Bailey
Have you always wanted to try wheel throwing Porcelain? Are you ready to get your hands dirty? Join our wheel class for beginners that will teach you all the basics of making your own cups and bowls!
Master Potter, John Bailey teaches through demonstrations to show you correct throwing posture, centering, and pulling up cylinders. This class is designed for students with no prior experience and focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of throwing.
If you have taken other wheel classes, but always wanted to try the challenge of Porcelain, this is a great class too! If you are ready to fall in love with pottery, this is the class you are looking for!
Pottery Wheel 3
with Chase Wilson
Wheel 3 focuses on advanced techniques beyond beginning throwing and is a great next step for those who have taken a previous wheel class and have basic throwing skills!
In this class we will cover the following:
Focus on refining skills to achieve technical control
Surface decoration including advanced slip methods and glaze trailing
Manipulating wheel thrown forms using different handbuilding construction methods
Handle pulling and making for various forms
Large platters and bowls
Various jars and lidded forms
This class will also include discussions about ceramic history, contemporary artists, and peer feedback.
Please note: Due to Thanksgiving day closure, This class will meet on Thursday NOV 13, 20 DEC 4, 11, 18 with a final class meeting on Monday Dec 22.

Portrait Drawing

Focus on the art of drawing faces with accuracy and character. This class explores the structure and proportions of the head, how to capture expression, and techniques for rendering features realistically. Ideal for those who want to build confidence specifically in portrait work.
Learn basic principles of drawing a human fact. This class will cover basic skeletal anatomy, simplified construction of the head, planes of head, and facial features. Students will learn how to visualize and measure proportion using the Loomis method, render volume with planar head, as well as capture likeness using a variety of dry media.

Printmaking
with Katelynn Randall
In this class we will explore different ways to make interesting and exciting linoleum prints! I willbe teaching the basics of linoleum printmaking including the use of the tools, materials, andpresses! This class is going to be very Freeform and fun, I want everyone to enjoy their time and produce artwork you can be proud of. I will also be showing how to use other medium ssuch as paint, colored pencil, and fabric.
For this class I recommend bringing your own sketchbook and carving tools if you have them, if not they will be provided!
6 week Plan
Week 1- Basics of printing: We will learn how to use the tools of printmaking safely and efficiently to make an amazingartwork. We will be making a small linoleum carving of something involving texture. This is pretty free form and you can do pretty much anything with this!
Week 2- How to print using a press: We will be learning how to prepare, ink, and print our first linoleum carving from the previous week. We will also be talking about and planning our next print.
Week 3- We will be making a larger print of something that inspires us. This can be a person,place, thing, or pretty much anything that you draw inspiration from in life or in your art. We will also be talking about how to enhance our previous prints with the use of colored pencils or paint and emphasis on specific parts of the print using color.Week 4- This will be one of the most fun classes as we will be printing our previous prints onshirts, totes, or any other kind of other materials you want to bring in! You can do this in color ink or in black ink! This is one of my personal favorite things to do with my prints and I love to wear my artwork!
Week 5- This week we will be doing a more advanced kind of print involving the use of multiple ink colors. You will slowly carve away the different layers of your print with the goal of using three different colors! This will be a completely free subject print where you can make whatever you want and I will simply be around to help out, give tips, and advice when needed.
Week 6- We will finish up the last of our prints and have fun while we work! This day will mostly be dedicated to printing with the press and using other materials to spice up the prints that youwant to! You will also collect the prints that are dry and ready to take home!
